A Searching this Site Help Topics...

You can search this site in the following ways:

  • By part number
  • By competitor's part number
  • Full-text search using words, phrases, or sentences

Each of these search methods is described below.

Search by Part Number

When you use the part number search, we will look for the part number you entered in our database of products. Usually we will find a direct match; however, if the part number is incomplete, we can often find similar matches. The most common reason for getting no results is because the part number is missing a class number. Suppose you are looking for find a 9001KA1 pushbutton. The following scenarios illustrate how we attempt to find what your looking for:

You entered
Search method chosen
What happens
9001KA1
Part number
Our database will find a part number matching 9001KA1 exactly and will return information for this part number only
KA1
Part number
We will attempt to find an exact match. In this case, it is unclear from KA1 whether you are looking for a class 9001 or class 9007 KA1, so we will return both 9001KA1 and 9007KA1 for you to decide. For the most accurate result when searching by part number, be sure to include the product's 4-digit class code where appropriate.

Search by Competitor's Part Number

This search method will find the listed Square D/Schneider Electric equivalent for the part number entered. If an exact match is not found, you will be presented with the next closest-matching numbers, through which you may navigate forward or backward through the alphanumerically sorted list.

In addition to cross-overs from competitors' parts, this search will also return the latest replacement for obsolete or discontinued Square D parts.

Where a one-for-one cross reference is indicated, the part number is provided as a hypertext link, which can be clicked on to add the part number to your bill of materials. If more than one Square D part is needed to approximate a competitor's part, appropriate information and notes are listed, but any numbers provided must be added to the bill of materials manually and in the quantity specified.

Full Text Search

Outside our product database, there are many other references to products and applications listed within the pages and documentation on this site. Our search engine captures this information by aggregating it as "unstructured" data and placing it in a searchable text database. When searching this text database, information is returned in the order of most to least relevant to your search criteria. This gives you access to a much broader, albeit less targeted, collection of information from which to query.

To use the full text search, enter a word or a phrase that describes the information you are seeking. For example, if you are interested in finding more information on circuit breakers, enter the words "circuit" and "breaker" (separated by a space or comma) into the search field and click the "Go" button. The results will be listed in order of relevance and will contain links to documents and pages which contain the words "circuit" and/or "breaker." Those which contain both will be considered more relevant that those which do not.

To search for exact phrases (as in the circuit breaker example above), surround the phrase with quotation marks. This forces the search engine to return only documents containing the phrase "circuit breaker" and will exclude documents which contain both individual words, but not adjacent to each other.

The table below lists a few of the most common search scenarios:

Search entry Explanation
circuit breaker
Finds all documents and pages with both the words "circuit" and "breaker" in them. Those which contain both words are considered most relevant. Among these most relevant documents, higher relevance if further determined by how close the words appear to each other.
circuit AND breaker
Limits the search to documents which contain both the words "circuit" and "breaker." Those which contain only one of the words are excluded from the result.
circuit OR breaker
Includes documents which contain at least one of the words "circuit" or "breaker." Those with both words are considered most relevant.
"circuit breaker"
Includes only those documents which contain the phrase exactly as it appears between the quotation marks. In this case, the word "circuit" must appear before and adjacent to the word "breaker."

A Exporting My Product List Help Topics...

Installing the Java Applet

The first time you access your Product List &/or the export button, you will be prompted to allow a Java Applet to be installed on your PC. A Java Applet is a small program that runs inside your web browser.

If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer, you will see this message...

If you click the Square D Company link, you will be able view the certificate issued by Thawte Server which verifies that the applet is provided by Square D Company.

After you close this certificate window, check the box next to "Always Trust Content From Square D Company" so that you will not be prompted to install this applet in the future.

You should now click the Yes button to allow this applet to be installed on your hard drive.

If you have Netscape Communicator, you will see this message...

If you click the Certificate button, you will be able view the certificate issued by Thawte Server which verifies that the applet is provided by Square D Company.

After you close this certificate window, check the box next to "Remember This Decision" so that you will not be prompted to install this applet in the future.

You should now click on the Grant button to allow this applet to be installed on your hard drive.

What Does This Java Applet Do?

This applet will take the current contents of your Product List and stores the quantities and the catalog numbers to a text file on the hard drive of the computer. This file will be located in the C:\ directory and will be called SHOPPINGCART.TXT . You can import this file into other applications such as Word Processing Documents or Spreadsheets.

The contents of this file looks something like this...
      QO120    15
      QO115    1
      QO110    5
The catalog number is first, followed by a TAB character and finally the quantity.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  1. Once you have exported the contents of your Product List, the items are removed from your Product List.
  2. There can only be one SHOPPINGCART.TXT file. Every time the contents of your Product List are exported, the old items in the file are erased and the file is filled with the new items.
